Four special awards and commendations in the Fannin County School System highlighted different departments Nov. 12 during the Board of Education (BOE) meeting last Thursday.
Special awards and honors, monthly financial and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) reports and 2019 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores were among items discussed during the monthly meeting.
Fannin School System Bus Rodeo Awards, School Nutrition Department of Education Nexus Award, West Fannin Elementary School Science Technology Engineering & Math (STEM) proposal acceptance and partnerships with Feed Fannin dominated the monthly BOE meeting.
Transportation Director Denver Foster said winners of the annual Fannin County Bus Rodeo held in October were first place, Blue Ridge District Driver Junior Dillinger; second place, East Fannin District Driver Darrel Davis; and third place, West Fannin District Driver John Hembree.
This year’s Bus Rodeo environment had a number of firsts including a change in the event date moved to October from April and Union County following along with rodeo festivities to see how Fannin conducts its annual rodeo.
Fannin County Nutrition Department Director Candy Sisson and the 29-person staff received the 2019 Nexus Award recently from the Georgia Department of Education, further signaling its status as an outstanding nutrition program in the state.
The award was among three awarded to programs throughout Georgia. It come after a string of awards most recently including “The Golden Radish” for 2019 for its efforts in excellence providing farm to table foods to students.
