Good Samaritans of Fannin County again served Open Table in the Fannin County High School Cafeteria Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018. A feast of smoked turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, acorn squash, green beans and donated desserts such as ice cream from Dairy Queen Grill and Chill in Blue Ridge and fried pies from Mercier Orchards was on the menu.
Organizer Carlie Hammond said, “We don’t always raise money. The Community Thanksgiving Open Table is about making sure everyone in Fannin County has a Thanksgiving meal and fellowship.”
Many Good Samaritan volunteers (over 150 joyous souls) made the Open Table a success – from the days of preparation, cooking the food, decorating Fannin County High School cafeteria to celebrate the occasion, and the actual serving of the delectable dinners.
People who came to feast on the good food and listen to local entertainers fill the air with the sound of music left donations at the door if they desired.
Entertainment was provided by the sweet sounds of Voices Of Hope Evangelistic Team’s Fire Choir led by Sandy Schubert, singer-songwriter-musician Shadow Two Heart, Copperhill (Tenn.) Steppers (these line dancers kept the crowd foot stomping for sure!), singer Kaitlyn Burger, local musician-singers Nelson Williams, Dan Adams, and Retha Crain.
Pet Smart of Dawsonville donated stuffed dogs and cats for the children and Home Depot donated small DIY projects.
Good Samaritans of Fannin County is a non-profit agency. They share the monies received from fundraisers and donations to those in the community who may be in need. The 16 affiliated churches with the organization are: Bethel Methodist, Blue Ridge United Methodist, Cherry Log Christian, Copper Basin Ministerial Association, Epworth Methodist, Faith Presbyterian, First Baptist Blue Ridge, Highland Tabernacle, Ridge Community, Hipps Chapel, Jewish Congregation of Blue Ridge, McCaysville Church of God, Morganton Baptist, New Life Community, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran, St. Anthony’s Catholic, St. Luke’s Episcopal, Temple Baptist, Tri-State Christian Center, Wilscot Baptist, and World Harvest North.
